The aim of the Siurells de Plata (Silver Siurells), awarded by the newspaper Ultima Hora since 1965, is to highlight and publicly recognise the involvement and commitment to society in different ways.
This year, the Fundació Marilles has received this award in the category of Environmental Value.
We are very grateful for this recognition, mainly because it helps us to give visibility to the urgent need to conserve the sea that surrounds us. A sea in excellent health is essential for the future of the Balearic Islands, for its economic prosperity and for the well-being of its citizens and visitors. At the awards ceremony we were able to see once again how society is becoming increasingly aware of this.
In the other categories, the candidates chosen by the jury were: Tòfol Castanyer, in the Sporting Value category; Joan Pere Català Roig, in the Cultural Value category; Carob S.A., in the Scientific Value category; and the RANA Foundation, in the Ethical and Social Value category. A special recognition is the Siurell de Actualitat, which this year has triple protagonism, rewarding the merits of the football players Mariona Caldentey, Cata Coll and Patri Guijarro.
In addition, the Siurell of Honour Pere A. Serra was a tribute to the medical career of Dr. Alfonso Ballesteros.
