Participative governance in the Illa de l'Aire Marine Reserve
Inspired by the experience in Sa Dragonera and Pollença, we are promoting a new participatory governance project in the marine reserve of Illa de l'Aire.
This project, carried out by Menorca Preservation, with the support of the association Leader Menorca, weaves networks of dialogue, participation, and decision-making to ensure the effective management of this protected marine area. After completing a first phase of consultancy and developing an action plan, this second phase has launched, with 50 actions and objectives summarised as follows:
- Ensure participation and cooperation between the actors involved (fishers, public administration, environmental organisations, tourist sector and residents).
- Coordinate the efforts of surveillance, education, communication, and dissemination of the benefits and values of the reserve.
- Convene the first participatory forum.
‘ The Illa de l'Aire Marine Reserve Forum is a living space where several voices meet to take care of the sea and all that surrounds it: the biodiversity, culture, and the life that beats in it. This is a process of dialogue, consensus, and collective responsibility to build a shared reserve open to everyone.’
