The director of Marilles Foundation, Aniol Esteban, met with the President of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Marga Prohens, and the Minister of the Sea and the Water Cycle, Juan Manuel Lafuente at the Consolat de la Mar. Natalia Barrientos, coordinator of the Balearic Sea Report (IMB), and oceanographer Xavier Pastor accompanied Esteban to the meeting.
During the meeting, Marilles explained the commitments of the Balearic Blue Deal, and formally requested the government to implement them during this legislature, starting by allocating 1% of the 2024 budget to marine conservation.
Esteban positively values the predisposition of the government to applying the Blue Deal, saying: ‘We trust that this receptiveness will translate into the application of concrete measures in the government’s plan and in the next budgets.’ He reiterated the request that at least 1% of public budgets be earmarked for marine conservation.
