The Balearic Sea is a source of benefit, enjoyment, leisure, and wellbeing. A sea and coast in a good state of conservation are essential to mitigate the impacts of climate change and guarantee the future of industries such as fishing and tourism, nautical activities, and the jobs that depend on them.

But the Balearic Sea is in crisis. The multiple pressures to which it is subjected have caused the disappearance of species, the erosion of habitats, and the deterioration of its environmental quality, putting at risk its ability to provide welfare and ensure economic prosperity. In the context of climate change and global uncertainty, it is urgent that we halt this process and recover its good ecological status.

The upcoming elections are vital for the future of the sea and the Balearic coast. Political parties play a key role in accelerating the transition to a sea full of life, reducing negative impacts and promoting the conservation and recovery of our natural heritage.

The Balearic Islands aspire to be a world reference in marine conservation. They aspire to demonstrate that it is possible to reconcile economic prosperity with marine and coastal ecosystems in an excellent state of conservation. The scale of the challenge is enormous. Making it happen requires ambition and bold action.

That is why we presented the Balearic Blue Deal at the Parliament of the Balearic Islands. We asked all political parties, whether they are in government or in opposition, to commit to working for the conservation of the sea and the Balearic coast and include a set of measures in their electoral programmes and the future government plan.

But to embed the conservation of our sea in the political action we need the support of the whole Balearic society. For this, we also ask representatives of the private sector, and public and civil society to make public their support by joining the Balearic Blue Deal through this website: www.pacteblaubalear.org

We know what needs to be done to recover our sea but we will only achieve it if we have everyone's support.
