The Port Ramassat platform, which brings together several groups in Sóller linked to the sea and the coastline, was launched on 21 November to publish the results of a survey on citizens' perceptions of the environmental state of the Sóller coast and the need to protect it.
The event also featured a roundtable discussion on issues that have been identified as priorities. Our colleague Raquel Vaquer-Sunyer, coordinator of the Balearic Sea Report (IMB), participated in the discussion to talk about anchoring and water quality.
According to the results, 94% of those surveyed agree or strongly agree with the creation of a marine protected area (MPA) in the shadow of the Tramontana mountains. Likewise, 65% of residents negatively rate the state of the marine and coastal environment in Sóller.
Marilles Foundation supports the Port Ramassat platform and is working with its promoters to achieve the declaration of an MPA in the Sóller waters.
