Members of Oceana and Marilles at a meeting at the French embassy.
On 5 May, we participated in a working meeting at the French embassy in Madrid with H.E. Kareen Rispal, Ambassador of France to Spain and Mr Thani Mohamed-Soilihi, Minister of State of France. During the meeting, we analysed the opportunities and challenges facing the upcoming United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3).
Focusing on the urgent need to intensify global action for ocean conservation, within this framework of dialogue we presented our proposals for the protection of the Balearic Sea. We emphasised three points:
- The 10x30 and 30x30 commitments for effective protection of marine ecosystems.
- The importance of basing conservation policies on scientific evidence.
- The need to ensure that every measure implemented has a tangible and lasting impact.
These spaces for international collaboration are essential for moving towards a more sustainable future for our oceans. Participation in this type of event allows us to establish strategic alliances and place the Balearic Sea on the global marine conservation agenda.
