Pablo Rodríguez Ros, new director of Marilles

Environmentalist and Doctor of Marine Sciences, Pablo Rodríguez Ros, is the new director of Marilles Foundation. This role, which Rodríguez Ros takes up at the start of the academic year, forms part of a strategy to strengthen the organisation’s management team and structure.

In line with this, Marilles has also created a new role for former director Aniol Esteban, who, after nine years at the helm, will focus on strategic development and fundraising. Marilles is both strengthening the management of a growing foundation and consolidating our capacity to secure the resources needed to promote marine conservation in the Balearic Sea.

Until now, Rodríguez Ros had lead our marine protected areas strategy and the 30x30 objectives in the Mediterranean Sea. In addition to his career at the foundation, his work in support of marine conservation is underpinned by his research experience and his role in institutional advisory and consultancy work, as well as by his ability to forge links between science, institutions, and society that ensure the transfer of knowledge and the development of evidence-based policies. He takes on this challenge ‘with the enthusiasm of seeing that this is a well-established project, one with a tremendous legacy behind it and which has ideas and projects to continue advancing the mission that gave rise to us: to make the Balearic Islands a global benchmark for marine conservation’.

For his part, Aniol Esteban takes on the roles of strategic development and fundraising, feeling very satisfied with the work carried out and convinced ‘this new phase will enable a stronger and better relationship with the people and institutions allied with Marilles and marine conservation.’ It is also ‘a reaffirmation of the foundation’s commitment to its members and partners’, he said. Esteban, a marine biologist and environmental economist, has devoted much of his professional career to reconciling the environment and the economy.
