In memory of Kike Ballesteros

Dr Enric (Kike) Ballesteros, a fundamental person in the life of Marilles Foundation, died on 27 November 2024 aged 66. Known by most as Kike, he was surely the person who knew the Balearic Sea best and who generated the greatest amount of knowledge to help conserve it.

Kike was a biologist and an ecologist of international renown. He was deeply linked to the Balearic Islands and generously committed his time to the conservation of the Balearic Sea, where he made more than 10,000 dives.

He was decisive in the development of Marilles Foundation during our seven years of life. The conservation of shallow bays and the development of new marine protected areas are just two examples of how he has influenced the actions we have taken.

We are fully committed to upholding his legacy and making a difference.

We will miss you very much, Kike.
