MARE25 – “La mar ens mou”

From 13 to 15 November, Palma hosted the MARE25 “The sea moves us” sessions –  a space for meeting, inspiration, and action dedicated to the conservation of the Balearic Sea. Organised by MARE, a project that brings together art, science, and community to inspire action for the Balearic Sea, the event attracted photographers, creators, scientists, organisations, and citizens through a programme of screenings, talks, and activities designed to connect perspectives and spark commitment.

Three days to experience and share different views of the Balearic Sea

Thursday, 13th November – 7:00 pm | CineCiutat
Screening of the winning reels of the first edition of MARE SEA REEL and the finalist films of the Ocean Film Fest. An evening dedicated to the sea, featuring the award-winning reels from the first edition of MARE Sea Reel and the Official Selection of the Ocean Film Festival World Tour.

Friday, 14th November – 6:00 pm | CaixaForum Palma
MARE25 Awards Gala, presenting the winning works from the photography and reel competitions, the opening of the photography exhibition, and the screening of the award-winning videos. The sixth annual Balearic Sea conservation audiovisual contest, MARE25, awarded €10,000 in prizes. The winning images were selected from 1,321 photographs submitted by photographers of 17 different nationalities. This year’s jury comprised Ana Palacios, Merche Llobera, and Emma Cebrián.

Saturday, 15th November – 10:00 am to 2:00 pm | Foto Ruano
Inspiring talks on photography and visual creation. A morning dedicated to photography and marine storytelling, with experts such as Xavier Mas, marine biologist and photographer, who shared his experience in underwater macro photography, and Ana Palacios, visual journalist and documentary storyteller specialising in social-impact projects, contributor to international media outlets, and mentor for Canon Europe.

Palacios’s talk explored how photography can be cultivated like a creative garden, where different projects –  from reportages to documentaries –  are seeded and grown, combining diversity, sustainability, and creativity to produce coherent, accessible, and meaningful work.
