Observadores del Mar invites citizens to investigate the impact of climate change in the Mediterranean

Observadores del Mar (Sea Watchers) invites citizens to participate in an unprecedented mission to investigate the impact of climate change on the marine ecosystems of the Spanish Mediterranean coast. This summer the OdM Climate Tour begins, an initiative focused on obtaining information on four effects of global warming: mass mortalities affecting species such as gorgonians, corals, and sponges; changes in the distribution and abundance of indicator fish; alterations in the life cycle, by quantifying the rate of flowering of the marine phanerogam Posidonia oceanica; and the proliferation of jellyfish.

This monitoring will be carried out by sea-loving citizens through a network of 34 diving centres located on the Spanish Mediterranean coast. Anyone can register at www.odmclimate.org.
