Sandra Espeja: ‘Marine conservation must be a priority in public budgets.’

The conservation of our marine environment has to be a priority to face the challenges of climate change. This was one of the messages that our colleague, Sandra Espeja, put forward during her participation in the Mediterranean Economic and Social Forum, a meeting organised by the Prensa Ibérica group. The meeting brought together governments, businesses, and civil society to reflect on the economic and social development of the Mediterranean.

Espeja took part in the round table on tourism and climate change. During her speech, she spoke of the need for the tourism sector, which benefits so much from a sea in a good state of conservation, to invest in the protection of the marine environment. She also noted that marine conservation should be a priority in public budgets, as proposed by the Balearic Blue Deal.

The round table was also attended by Toni Riera, Director of the Impulsa Foundation; Vicent Marí, President of Consell d'Eivissa; and Ana Mayor, President of Port Hotels. The round table closed with a speech by Marga Prohens, president of the Balearic Islands.
