MARE has presented its 2025 activity programme in an event held at the Port Centre of the Balearic Port Authority. Under the motto “From focus to action”, the initiative reaffirms its role as a driver of awareness and conservation of the Balearic Sea, introducing new proposals that expand its social and educational impact.
One of the main new features is the launch of a reels contest, aimed at bringing marine conservation messages closer to younger audiences via social media. In addition, the 6th edition of the photography contest will feature a special mention focused on shallow bays, recognising their ecological value.
This year’s jury includes the renowned experts Emma Cebrian, Ana Palacios y Merche Llobera, who will evaluate works that highlight the beauty and vulnerability of the marine environment.
The programme also includes the expansion of the educational area with workshops across the islands, and the extension of the travelling exhibition featuring the winning images of MARE 2024.
Since its inception, MARE has mobilised over 1,100 photographers and conducted nearly 100 educational workshops, becoming a collective tool for awareness and active public participation.
The event featured, in addition to the MARE team, the director of the Marilles Foundation, Aniol Esteban, and the president of the Balearic Port Authority, Javier Sanz, both of whom emphasised the urgent need to act for the protection of the Balearic Sea.
“We don’t want images and words to be carried away by the wind, but to become real projects,” stated Amador Garcias.
MARE continues to grow as an open, participatory, and transformative platform, inviting all citizens to view the sea with fresh eyes and become active agents in its protection.
