MPAs and conservation of habitats and species
Marine protected areas (MPAs) are essential conservation tools. In the coastal area of Pollença, we find protection figures.
For them to be efficient and achieve the 2030 objective to have 30% of Spain’s waters designated as protected, it is crucial to establish management plans with a more holistic and integrative vision. This vision should include ecological and socioeconomic objectives to add to the technical-scientific criteria.
In this project, Arrels Marines and Save the Med contribute to generating new scientific knowledge, identifying potential MPAs, and assisting with spatial planning, management, and conservation plans. In parallel, they ensure social involvement and promote the development of a more sustainable and marine-friendly local economy.
