MPAs and seahorse conservation

The Vellmarí Association works in an integrated way with education, communication, conservation, and research. It is in direct contact with universities and educational and research centres working to conserve marine habitats and ecosystems and inspire people so that together we can face the threats suffered by the seas and oceans, in particular the Mediterranean Sea.

Through this project, we support the development of a proposal for a marine protected area (MPA) in the islands of Ibiza and Formentera to support Spain's international commitment to protect 30% of its waters (10% no-take) by 2030.

We also support the development of a scientific study to increase our knowledge of the population distribution and trends of seahorses to improve the management of this species and its habitat.
